Former SNL cast member and star of Joe Dirt, David Spade, has a dating history that some suggests is not in sync with David Spade’s level of talent, aesthetic appeal, or bank account. Over the years, Spade has been linked with — among others — Kristy Swanson and Lara Flynn Boyle (in the ’90s), Krista Allen, Julie Bowen, Jillian Barberie, Heather Locklear, Carmen Electra, Pamela Anderson, Nicollette Sheridan, (possibly, maybe) Padma Lakshmi, and Teri Hatcher. Some speculate that Spade hits above his weight class, so to speak, and Spade himself has commented on his unusual dating history.

“I think it was more played up because I didn’t seem like this guy that goes out with girls at all so if there’s one or two pretty ones it’s so astounding, everyone freaks out and you write an article, ‘Oh, a pretty girl went out with this guy!’”

Many have speculated that the reason for Spade’s dating history has something to do with the size of his penis, which is a rumor that also trails another SNLer, Pete Davidson, so much that he commented upon it in his most recent stand-up special. The speculation about Spade is so widespread that it has taken on something akin to urban legend.

But is it true? On his podcast, Literally!, Rob Lowe point-blank asked him. “Are the rumors true? Are you an elephant man?”

“No,” Spade told him. “But you know what? I think it’s good to think that. What happens is, I think [the women I date] need a reason to say they went out with me,” and so they spread rumors that he has a large penis.

So, there you go: The truth is so much worse than the rumors. Women like David Spade for his … personality.
