It’s none of our business, really, what a celebrity does to his or her face. And we can’t begin to imagine the towering pressures associated with living in Hollywood and working for the dream factory. But it can be jarring when a face we’ve come to know so well, a face we’ve seen projected 22 ft high, changes drastically. I don’t mean “jarring” as in “poor us.” Just “jarring” as in “well damn, that happened.”
Renee Zellweger, who is a divisive figure around here, will always have a snuggly place in my heart for Empire Records, Nurse Betty and the first Bridget Jones Diary. Probably her most famous, defining feature was her “squint” or “lemon face.” Some people found it endearing and it drove other people up the wall. Well fear not, Wall People, the squint, she is gone. Here’s how Bridge looks today:
I mean, not monstrous. Not as drastic as Meg Ryan or Nicole Kidman, perhaps. But markedly different. Once again, her face her choice, but I’ll miss that little squint. And I’m not going to say this age-“correcting” move had anything to do with the age of her ex’s new girlfriend, but, ah, I’m sure that didn’t help.
