The unveiling of the official portraits for Barack and Michelle Obama took place this morning. They look fantastic.

Michelle Obama’s painting was done by Baltimore artist Amy Sherald, while Kehinde Wiley painted the President’s official portrait. Wiley and Sherald are the first-ever African-Americans to be commissioned by the gallery to paint the official portraits.

Here’s a close up of the President’s portrait.

The paintings, like their subjects, are much more striking and bold than what we are typically accustomed to when it comes to a Presidential photo.

The portraits will be displayed in the National Gallery, although future Presidents are also allowed to take them out on loan and hang them in the Oval Office or around the White House (don’t expect Trump to hang Obama’s up in the Oval Office anytime soon).

Of Michelle’s portrait, Barack offered that Sherald captured “the grace, intelligence and charm and hotness of the woman I love.”

Word.
