Piers Morgan Says Madonna and Lady Gaga Lied about Being Raped Because He Is a Piece of Sh*t

Piers Morgan, who exists only as a human example to display when someone asks “what does ‘respectability politics’ mean?” or “I think all British people seem smart,” has come forth with his latest effort to grab that Ann Coulter crown: he’s publicly suggesting that both Madonna and Lady Gaga lied about being raped. You know, for that super chic and trendy “rape victim” cred we all long to have.

Lady Gaga agreed to an interview with him, presumably to destroy him with her laser eyes in person. He tweeted about it with all the respect you’d expect.

Gaga is not having it.

In just the last few years, Madonna has opened up about being raped at 19, most recently at the Billboard Music Awards Friday. Lady Gaga has written several songs about her rape and has been candid about how it’s affected her.

Here she is discussing it while visiting the Ali Forney Center for LGBT homeless youth.

“When you go through a trauma like that, it doesn’t just have the immediate physical ramifications on you,” she said during a TimesTalks session last year. “For many people it has almost like trauma. When you re-experience it throughout the years after it, it can trigger patterns in your body of physical distress, so a lot of people suffer from not only mental and emotional pain, but also physical pain of being abused, raped, or traumatized in some type of way.”

“Because of the way that I dress, and the way that I’m provocative as a person, I thought that I had brought it on myself in some way,” she said. “That it was my fault.”

PTSD is not trendy. It’s not cool. It’s not a badge of honor anyone would want to wear. And it’s not something that only happens to combat veterans. It happens to survivors of rape, assault, domestic violence or any kind of serious trauma. That trauma looks different for different people. For me, it was caused by the experiences I’ve talked about here many times. It never occurred to me I could have PTSD. I’ve never been the victim of a violent attack, and I certainly have a complicated relationship with my own experience of nonconsensual sex. The thing that gave me PTSD was being in love and attempting to survive in that love, that chaotic terrifying love with a person struggling with addiction. It manifested in manic behavior, suicidal ideation and a massive increase in my existing depression and anxiety.

PTSD is not cool. It’s not an accessory. To imply that anyone is pretending to have it, is pretending to have been raped, especially given our society’s treatment of rape and assault survivors? God, fuck you, Piers Morgan. Fuck you.
