Look: Everyone loves Phylicia Rashad, and no one wants to think any less of her, so let’s just chalk this up to loyalty and the vapors, OK? Because no one wants to live in a world where Phylicia Rashad is delusionally ignoring the overwhelming evidence against Bill Cosby from over 30 women who have alleged the man drugged and raped them over five decades. Worse still, Rashad is alleging a massive conspiracy and shaming the victims.

“Forget those women,” Rashad told Roger Friedman over a lunch celebrating Selma. “What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture.”

Who would orchestrate such a conspiracy? IS THIS THE PLOT TO NOW YOU SEE ME 2? Has Mark Ruffalo’s character carefully been planting evidence and paying off alleged victims for the last five decades in a single-minded effort to tarnish a legacy that didn’t exist when he set out to conspire against him? Did Bill Cosby murder his other father?

“Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV,” Rashad continued. “And it’s worked. All his contracts have been cancelled.” Yes, it’s true. The women that he raped are very much trying to keep him off of television, because it’s most likely the harshest punishment they will ever be able to muster given the circumstances.

On the allegations from Janice Dickinson and Beverly Johnson. “Oh please,” Rashad said. On the other hand, Camille Cosby would never look the other way, according to Rashad. “This is a tough woman, a smart woman. She’s no pushover.”

Mmm hmmm.

Come on now.I know it doesn’t do any favors to Phylicia Rashad to admit that she got snowed, but she got snowed.

In the meantime, I’m reminded of one of Claire Huxtable’s brilliant feminist rants on The Cosby Show, and I’m saddened that this otherwise incredible scene is being tarnished by a huge, overarching, five-decade conspiracy masterminded by Mark Ruffalo. Clearly.

Goddamn, that show was good.
