Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal published a piece about how some people are using celebrity Cameos to break bad news. For example, last year, 35-year-old motion graphics designer Christopher Gonzalez dropped a cool $30 to get American Idol’s William Hung to quit his job for him:

“Hello everyone,” Hung says in the video, “Christopher is going to put in the notice to leave the current job for a new job in two weeks. He found a new job. He’ll miss all of you but you are all amazing so don’t give up creating the life you want.”

After he delivered the message, William broke into his original song, “Just Do It” (that’s right, he’s more than just “She Bangs”), which includes the inspiring lyrics, “be what you want to be, do what you want to do.” So true. Christopher tells the Wall Street Journal that he thought the Cameo would be a fun way to leave his job, and, luckily, his boss and co-workers found it funny (or, at least that’s what they told him in the companywide Slack channel).

In the last three years, Cameo says they’ve received almost 5,000 requests with the word “divorce” in the instructions, 2,000 with “breakup”, 5,500 with “apology” or “I’m sorry”, and 1,000 from people wanting to quit their jobs via a celebrity.

On her wedding day, bride Jessica Van Wagnen’s sister, Courtney Gramza, surprised her with a Cameo from Vanderpump Rules’ James Kennedy. In the video, the reality show DJ said that he heard Jessica “looked great” on her recent bachelorette trip to New Orleans, and did not resemble “a slutty skeleton.” Apparently, Courtney had called her sister a slutty skeleton during a drunken fight in the Big Easy, and it had remained a sore spot for Jessica. But James’ Cameo helped ease the tension, and, now, Jessica finds the insult to be “the funniest thing in the world.”

Then there’s the break-up Cameos. Sports content creator Robby Berger, aka BrilliantlyDumb, recently got a video request from a guy who wanted help asking for a divorce. The husband thought Robby would “soften the blow”. The influencer obliged, sensing that both partners knew the split was coming, and it seemed like they wanted to end things on a fun note.

Note to my spouse: if you ever decide to leave me, the only way I will accept the news is via a Cameo from (searches for most expensive celebrity on the site)… Caitlyn Jenner?! That’s right, if my husband wants to get out of this marriage, he’s gotta hand over $2,500 of his hard-earned dollars to the most problematic Kardashian-Jenner in existence. If that ain’t a deterrent, I don’t know what is.
