Love it or loathe it, Batman v Superman: Donna Justice has become a cultural touchstone that’s forced audiences to take sides. Batman v Superman. Critics v fans. Zack Snyder v disgruntled fans. With this much battling it seems no one wins, really. Except Simon & Garfunkel.

The ’60s folk rock duo had zero involvement with the Warner Bros tent pole, but their music became the culturally accepted soundtrack to Ben Affleck’s sadness in the wake of realizing his Batman was being received by critics like so much Daredevil.

This video went viral, and with it, millions realized they needed more S&G in their lives. As a result, The Independent reports “Sound of Silence” has burst back onto the Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart fifty years after its initial release. Plus it’s the second most streamed song in the US, boasting 5.6 million streams.

In an eerie twist, the Simon & Garfunkel classic has been beat out by the heavy metal band Disturbed’s cover of “The Sound of Silence,” which is an actual thing.

BvS’s box office fall-off in weekend two has sparked speculation that WB could take a heavy loss with a film that should have been a license to print money. So Sad Ben Affleck could use some good news right now. Or at very least a fruit basket. The nice kind, with chocolate covered strawberries.

Kristy Puchko lives in perpetual fear that ice cream will become self-aware New York City.
