Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra may have gotten married last year, but that didn’t stop them from having another wedding reception over the weekend, this time in North Carolina!
Why North Carolina? Why not?!
I mean, there’s a bit more to it than that, Jonas’ father grew up there, and the family owns a restaurant there as well, but I’m starting to suspect a trend.
Humor me. Let’s say you’re an ex-boy bander and you still make music occasionally as well as act. Then let’s say you marry a mega-famous woman from India, who globally is probably a lot more famous and well known than you are. Let’s also say that you’ve been doing the celebrity thing for most of your life and you’re sick of it. Maybe your new wife, who is still lovely, is approaching 40 and you both know that entertainment opportunities start to dry up once you reach that age, because everything is terrible sometimes. So maybe, just maybe, you’re looking for opportunities for the next phase in your life.
You know what opportunities never dry up?
Let’s say after at least 20 minutes of brainstorming you and your partner realize you’re going to have to be the ones to make your next opportunity—and you want to make a splash when you announce to the world your new thing. Wouldn’t it make sense then to host a seemingly endless version of your wedding celebration, spread out across the world, to show everyone you mean business and can handle complex logistics? To make the emphasis on the event, and leak to the press that none of said events had even a whiff of the bear and/or ninja and/or bear-ninja attacks that usually plague celebrity weddings? (Side note: why do you think we’ve never seen pics from the Jay Z/Beyoncé or Jennifer Aniston/Brad Pitt nuptials?! It’s not privacy concerns holding them back, friends….)
It all suddenly makes sense, doesn’t it? The Chopra-Jonas household means business, and that business just happens to be event planning. It’s probably too late for them to get in on the event circuit this season, but I fully expect them to be the ones who put on the Met Gala next year, as well as Shelley Brown’s Sweet Sixteen Birthday Bash, which will be the hottest ticket in Cedar Rapids this Fall.
Expect Jonas and Chopra to pivot from hosting weddings, into family reunions very soon, as they’ve made their point and it’s time to start taking on new clients. From family reunions, it’s only a short hop, skip, and a jump to award shows, friends.
I, for one, look forward to seeing how they turn out Shelley’s birthday in a “fire way” as the kids would say, although Shelley said I’m a fugly and sad, so I may not score an invite come November. Shelley’s basically the meanest teenager in Cedar Rapids, but that doesn’t mean I don’t consider her a friend.
Anyway, watch this space. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about the Chopra/Jonas event company more or never again. It can only go one of two ways.
