I apologize sincerely for providing a link to TMZ, I really do. However, you owe it to yourself to listen to the howling yelps of Nic Cage belting out “Purple Rain” in Los Angeles Bar on Sunday. But first? You need some backstory.
As Dustin wrote last month, Cage’s most recent marriage (his fourth in 24 years) took place in Las Vegas with his girlfriend Erika Koike. Four days after their March 23 nuptials, Cage thought better of marrying someone he argued with immediately prior to the wedding and filed for an annulment.
Cage also insisted the two were super drunk while obtaining the marriage license and during the ceremony later that same day.
Koike agreed to split with Cage but says that he asked her to continue the relationship two weeks after filing the annulment, making his claim of the illegitimacy of the union due to booze complete rubbish. Koike is asking for spousal support in the divorce/annulment proceedings, which is just a fantastically bold move for a four-day marriage that happened after one year of dating.
Perhaps in response to his troubles or in spite of them, Cage decided drinking was the cause and solution to all of his problems this past Sunday. He had to have been drinking when he signed up to sing Prince’s classic “Purple Rain” and you cannot convince me that a few more did not follow immediately before the performance.
Yes, it’s at TMZ. Yes, I tried to find another place to snag an embed. If you want to see and hear how it truly feels and sounds to be Cage at this moment in time, you’ll want to click over to TMZ for the 20-second clip surreptitiously snagged by a fellow patron.
