Meghan McCain Tried to Argue with Rachel Maddow About Impeachment, It Didn't Work

So let’s set the table here, because these are the days when I seriously can’t believe The View is somehow a rich piece of our national discourse. In one corner you have Rachel Maddow, a goddamn Rhodes Scholar who has a bachelor in public policy from Stanford and a motherf*cking doctorate in political science from Oxford. She smart. In the opposite corner is the tag-team combo of Meghan McCain and Abby Hunstman a.k.a. MY FATHER McHUNT. Their qualifications include having famous political dads who helped them land internships with Diane Sawyer (Abby) or SNL (Meghan) before they spent time at Fox News. As for their educations, Abby at least has a degree in philosophy, politics, and economics while Meghan… let’s see here… majored in art history. Okay… Surprisingly, joining forces was not enough of an intellectual powerhouse to go toe-to-toe with Rachel Maddow. I am as shocked as you are.

There’s also the element of Adam Schiff, whom Republicans are desperately trying to discredit to protect Trump from impeachment, and it’s eerie how quickly the right gets its talking heads on message. Just yesterday, we saw Megyn Kelly latch onto a sloppy worded New York Times headline, and later that day on Fox Business, Kennedy was calling Schiff an “emotional child.” Naturally, Meghan has been doing her conservative duty and was already attacking Schiff last week. It also doesn’t hurt that Schiff shut down Meghan back in July when she tried to come for the Mueller Report, and we all know holding a grudge until it hilariously explodes in her face is Meghan’s speciality.

Long story short, MY FATHER McHUNT have their orders to tear down Schiff at every opportunity even if it puts them directly in the path of an opponent who will calmly make them look like idiots without breaking a sweat. This brings us back to Maddow, who stopped by The View on Thursday to make it very clear that the president, and almost definitely the vice president now, have committed a crime. Clearly, that’s the pressing concern, but not if you’re a plaid suicide bomber ready to explode your Jell-O guts for Trump, because here’s Meghan parroting Megyn Kelly’s tweet and getting instantly swatted down.

Via Raw Story:

“This was blowing up all over Twitter yesterday, at least conservative Twitter,” McCain said. “It turns out that Adam Schiff knew about the whistleblower complaint in advance. The whistleblower spoke to a House aide about it, and then the aide told Schiff. Even if that’s standard practice, when Schiff was recently asked directly, he said, quote, we have not spoken directly with the whistleblower. Now that’s a lie, and I keep saying that Adam Schiff is the wrong person to do this because if we are going to go forward with impeachment, it needs to be as clean and look as nonpartisan as possible.”

Maddow patiently explained that McCain’s outrage was misplaced.

“He didn’t speak with the whistleblower,” she said. “Whistleblowers come forward all the time to the House Intelligence Committee, which is run by Democrats, and to the Senate Committee run by Republicans, and they say this happens all the time, we always do the same thing. We have them speak with a staffer, and then the staffer tells them to get a lawyer and file a whistleblower complaint. On the House side, they say this happens two or three times a month. This is a normal thing.”

Whoops. God help whoever doesn’t bring the breadsticks fast enough at Olive Garden tonight. Next up is Abby, who I’m starting to quickly realize is the brains of this operation because she went for an offensive that’s used by both the Right and the Extremely Online Left: continuing to act like RussiaGate is a wild, debunked conspiracy theory created solely to make Hillary Clinton look better or some shit, and not a very real problem that continues to manifest itself directly in front of our faces on the White House lawn.

Via The Daily Beast:

“I think the Ukraine call, that to me, is very clear cut of an abuse of power,” Huntsman said. “And my frustration is that there has been a ‘crying wolf’ for so long. ‘This is it, this is the smoking gun, he’s out,’ for two years now from Democrats, from some members of the media, that now you have people in this country that are, like, we don’t believe anything anymore. They’re shutting it off. They are not taking it as seriously as they should, and I ask you, do you think you’re part of that problem?”

“Rachel?!” Behar asked in disbelief.

“I think it’s a really good point,” Maddow answered as Huntsman started to backtrack a bit by saying “we’re all guilty” as members of the media. “But it’s a consequence of having a really scandal-ridden presidency with all sorts of stuff that happens all the time, that in any other presidency, would have already led to impeachment.”

There it is, the Occam’s Razor of Trump’s presidency. There’s a non-stop barrage of news because the asshole keeps committing a non-stop barrage of crimes and/or breathtakingly stupid acts. He literally just asked CHINA to investigate Joe Biden not even two hours ago! But if you report on it, you have “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” or even worse, are straight-up lying about it — “Fake News!” — because the liberal media just wants to tear down a great president or whatever the hell Smalltown America is posting to Facebook. And that’s the wall this whole impeachment endeavor is going to repeatedly slam into like a fly on a windshield.

An entire political party simply refuses to acknowledge reality. What do you even do with that?
