Welcome back to “Yesterday’s Meghan Today: A Coronavirus Adventure.”
Now that Donald Trump and Fox News have been forced to accept the reality that COVID-19 is not a hoax and a very real pandemic that the president has undeniably bungled by shoving his malformed cantaloupe of a head in the sand, the right wing media has quickly gotten to work playing a shitty little game of tone policing like so:
I am so sick of seeking the news on Coronavirus and constantly getting bombarded w/how it’s all Trump’s fault or what Trump is calling the damn virus. Can we focus on what needs to be done right now and play the blame/political game later? Good Lord.— Megyn Kelly (@megynkelly) March 18, 2020
Yeah, how dare you correctly criticize the president for dooming God knows how many people by slow-rolling testing because he didn’t want to look bad during an election year? Don’t you see he has important work to pretend to be doing?!
Like all good conservative soldiers when they receive their marching orders, Meghan McCain immediately got down in the mud for the president and took to it like a pig in shit, which is in no way a reference to her outfit. I’m not thinking Miss Piggy wants her pantsuit back. You are.
During a discussion on Trump calling COVID-19 the “Chinese Virus,” Meghan defended the use of the term and agreed with ABC News’ Dan Abrams that it’s a “losing argument” for the Left to call out Trump’s blatant whole-ass racism. I should probably note that Joy Behar is taking a hiatus, and starting yesterday, Whoopi Goldberg will now be co-hosting the show from home, so there was no one in the studio to shut Meghan down. She was definitely feeling herself.
Via The Daily Beast:
“I agree with you that I think if the left wants to focus on P.C. labeling this virus, it is a great way to get Trump re-elected,” she stated. “I don’t have a problem with people calling it whatever they want. It’s a deadly virus that did originate in Wuhan.”
“I don’t have a problem with it, and I think China, had they acted right away, and we had more access to information, maybe it wouldn’t have gotten to the place that it is,” McCain continued. “That doesn’t mean that we should be, in any way, stereotyping.”
Is now a good time to mention that MY FATHER loved the term “gook” and vowed to never stop using it? Because MY FATHER loved the term “gook” and vowed to never stop using it.
When Whoopi attempted to point out that racist terms like the “Chinese Virus” was already causing a problem with racial attacks on Asians because of the coronavirus origins, and Trump just added fuel to the fire, Meghan barfed out a word salad that would make Sarah Palin dampen her bear suit.
Via Raw Story:
“Anyone who knows anything about me knows I wouldn’t be a proponent of [racial targeting],” McCain said, “but the idea we’re going to let China off the hook, and what you were saying, there was a lot of misinformation there using social media to target Americans to try to spread misinformation about our military and about our media, and the idea I’m going to let China get away with it, and get off the hook, there’s a lot of anger about our reliance on the Chinese government right now, and our reliance on China in so many ways and that messaging from President Trump and his messaging from the very beginning that we need to remove our trade from China is going to be very effective going into 2020.”
Setting aside how very little of that makes sense, here’s the thing: Is there a conspiracy theory being pushed by China (and Russia) that the U.S. military is behind the coronavirus? Yes. Welcome to our dumb-shit world. Is that an excuse to crank the nationalism meter up to “Racist as Balls” and defend the AMERICAN RIGHT to do so on daytime TV? No. Hell no.
However, it is nice to have a glaring neon light reminder that, despite her fleeting moments of common sense, Meghan McCain will gleefully get behind xenophobia if she thinks it’s a chance to own the libs. It isn’t, in any way, but never forget at the end of the day that’s all Meghan cares about followed closely behind by yelling her dad’s name so loud that pigeons fall out of the sky.
