Felicity Huffman has pleaded guilty and apologized for her involvement in the college admission scam. There was, in fact, an upsetting coda in that apology because one of the people that Huffman actually seemed to hurt the most was her daughter, who has nightmares about the situation. Not only did Huffman’s daughter not know that her mother had arranged to rig her SAT score, but she felt ashamed herself because Huffman didn’t have faith in her to get into college on her own.

In the meantime, Huffman’s sentencing hearing is coming up at the end of the month, and it is expected that she’ll probably spend a month in prison plus community service. However, as part of the sentencing process, several friends — and celebrities — have sent the judge letters of support, including Huffman’s Desperate Housewives co-star Eva Longoria, who — in the letter — writes that Huffman protected Longoria — relatively new to acting at the time — from a bullying co-star on the set of the series.

“There was a time I was being bullied at work by a co-worker. I dreaded the days I had to work with that person because it was pure torture. Until one day, Felicity told the bully ‘enough’ and it all stopped. Felicity could feel that I was riddled with anxiety even though I never complained or mentioned the abuse to anyone.”

Longoria also expressed gratitude to Huffman for ensuring that all four Desperate Housewives negotiated their contracts in tandem, despite the objection of one of those co-stars (who presumably was also the bully):

“Felicity stood up for me, saying it was fair because the success of the show depended on all of us, not one of us. This fight lasted weeks, but Felicity held strong and convinced everyone this was the right thing to do. And thanks to her, I was bumped up to favored nations. It wasn’t about the money for me, it was the fact that I was seen as an equal, which is how Felicity had always seen me.”

For what it’s worth, Longoria said that Huffman was the only one of her co-stars who also showed up to Longoria’s charity events.

Meanwhile, another letter of support came in from the show’s creator, Marc Cherry, and in his letter, he also called out that Desperate Housewives co-star, telling the judge that as horrible as that co-star was, Huffman remained civil with her.

“She was a big star with some big behavioral problems. Everyone tried their darndest to get along with this woman over the course of the show. It was impossible. And things went from bad to worse. Felicity still insisted on saying ‘good morning’ to this actress, even though she knew she wouldn’t get a response. I found out about this and asked Felicity about it. She smiled and said, ‘just because that woman’s determined to be rude, doesn’t mean she can keep me from being polite.’

Neither Longoria nor Cherry specifies who the bullying and rude actress is, but it doesn’t take much Googling to figure it out. There were four major castmembers of that show — Huffman, Longoria, Marcia Cross, and Terri Hatcher. Three of them — Huffman, Longoria, and Cross — remain good friends. Take that for what it’s worth.
