Kristen Bell Whines About Cancel Culture Without Saying the Words 'Cancel Culture'

Kristen Bell is famous for oversharing. For some reason, this woman is always going viral for saying or doing something weird. Did we need to know, for example, that she gives her kids nonalcoholic beer? Certainly not. Does anyone care that she and her family got kicked out of an airport? Not even a little bit.

One thing she’s stayed mum about, however, are those long-lingering rumors that she and husband Dax Shepard host swingers parties and A-list Hollywood orgies. Well, not anymore.

“I know exactly where that came from,” she told Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast. “It’s because you frequently make key party jokes. We’ll have a dinner party or something, and as we’re sitting down, you’ll say, ‘Everybody leave your keys.”

Shepard admitted he’d made key party jokes and other jokes about swinging, saying that he’s had to understand that everyone doesn’t have his same sense of humor, a classic unfunny person thing to say.

“A lot of people don’t get jokes,” Bell sagely replied. “That’s actually something I have been thinking about lately because it’s such a bummer that everything you say has to be taken so literally that there’s no room for fun in expression or language anymore when you’re telling a story, because you better have your facts right. It’s such a lame way to communicate.”

Are those alarm bells I hear, or is it the sound of a celebrity whining about “cancel culture” without saying the words “cancel culture”?

Bell went on to say that it makes her “feel bad” when people take everything she says literally. “For the most part when those comments come in, I think, ‘What a bummer that you’re not playful,’” she said. What a bummer that she has the same sense of humor as a drunk uncle and gets just as offended when people don’t get it.

At this point, if she were hosting orgies, it would be the most interesting thing about her. I’m not holding my breath.
