Game of Thrones star Kit Harington has checked into what Page Six and some other publications are calling a “luxury rehab,” and what others are reporting as a “wellness center.” Page Six is reporting that he checked in to deal with “stress, exhaustion, and also alcohol,” while Harington’s rep says he checked in for “personal reasons.”

In either case, or in both cases, Harington is getting some much-needed rest after spending the last six weeks as basically the pop-cultural focal point of much of the world, and the pressure of that would take a toll on anyone. The rest certainly seems like it’s doing him some good. From Page Six:

On the same weekend of the “GoT” finale, he was spotted at RJ Julia Booksellers in the small town of Madison, Conn., telling staff he was on “holiday” in the area, according to local reports.

One resident who has repeatedly seen the actor in recent weeks on his trips out of the facility told us, “Kit looks really good and appears to be very focused on his health and wellness.

“I have personally seen him out in the community many times. I think it’s wonderful that he is taking time to take care of himself - more people should.”

Harington has relayed on a number of occasions that playing Jon Snow has taken an emotional toll. He has said in the past that his “darkest” point came when his character was killed off before being resurrected, and that after filming his final scenes, he had a “full-on breakdown” and that taking off his Jon Snow costume was like “being skinned alive.”

I am sure that after being defined by one character for the last eight years of his life, it’s been difficult to move on from that. On the other hand, once Harington is fully rested and recovered, I think that Harington could easily pull off a Hemsworth, pivoting into a sort of comedic leading man. I don’t think that many realize — his stint on SNL notwithstanding — what a great comedic actor he can be. See, for instance, his role in Andy Samberg’s Seven Days in Hell. Here’s Castleton’s assessment of Harington in that movie:

Jon Snow can do comedy, people! Harington plays ‘Charles Poole,’ Samberg’s nemesis, and he’s delightfully dimwitted and idiotic. And it’s not in a “he’s just funny because everyone around him makes him feel funny” way. No, he’s truly funny. He’s talented with physical comedy and a general self-effacing sort of vibe, and he more than holds his own amidst a maelstrom of comedy dynamos.

In either respect, we wish Kit Harington the best, and we — and by “we,” I mean, “I” — really, really hope that his wife Rose Leslie returns to The Good Fight in season four.
