Where were you when you found out Kim Kardashian and Chloë Sevigny did a Variety “Actors on Actors” conversation together? I was walking on the treadmill in my bedroom, as I am while writing this because that’s where I usually am while doom scrolling the internet for my job. Variety posted stills on Instagram of the pairings, and I tripped over my own feet and had to slow down my pace.

It’s an obvious choice for the Ryan Murphy connection, but the internet exploded in predictable outrage over Kardashian being included at all. I think that’s silly because, come on, we’re not used to Kim by now? She ain’t going anywhere; might as well let her talk and say something silly and memeable. Especially when paired with Sevigny, whose whole essence is a meme. And she/they did not disappoint.

Kardashian plays a publicist in American Horror Story: Delicate, and fans assumed she was channeling the world’s first publicist, her mother Kris Jenner, for the role. She thinks that’s funny because she was “really channeling my sister Kourtney.” It wouldn’t be a conversation with Kim Kardashian if she didn’t find a way to backhandedly insult her eldest sister.

As for Murphy’s take on the O.J. Simpson trial and how her father played a role in The People v. O.J. Simson, she “loved it:”

“I thought it was just done so well. I remember asking Ryan, who were your sources? Because that was my dad’s exact bracelet. That was our home! They actually rented the home that we grew up in at that period of time. Little things were wrong, but minimal. But it was just fascinating to watch and see it from a different perspective, especially now, since I’m in law school. Seeing it from a legal point of view is just fascinating.”

And she’s using that newfound knowledge in law for a project she’s developing in which she’ll play “a high-powered divorce attorney” where she “will be channeling Laura Wasser, if that resonates with anybody.” (Not me!)

“You can really own that legalese,” Sevigny said. While Kardashian says legalese is “a different language,” she’s more confident speaking that language while in character than in her own and would be open to accent work.

“Especially because I find my voice is so just distinct and annoying.”

She says she has “four” projects in the works right now. This sudden interest in acting comes from a pact she made with herself. “Every year I want to do something that makes me terribly uncomfortable,” she said. “To where I can just grow and hopefully be a better person because of that terrifying experience.” The first thing she tried was SNL, which she said no to a few times before finally giving in.

“I love how much you love working,” Sevigny told her.

“I do,” Kardashian agreed. “Maybe it’s a deflection of other stuff, I don’t know. But no, I generally genuinely love working. It’s like my happy place.”

As for her taste in movies, she says it isn’t “sophisticated.” Recently she was “completely blown away, stopped in my tracks, couldn’t believe it, emergency family meeting at the movies: My mom had never seen Troop Beverly Hills.”

“And we watched it, and she was crying over the fashion and all these stores that don’t exist anymore. And we were like, ‘Oh we can never drive down in a Rolls-Royce in Beverly Hills these days. All the shopping bags out? You’d get robbed.’ It was such a different time.”

Lifestyles of the rich and the famous, am I right? They’re always complaining. Always complaining.
