We’ve all overstayed our welcome at one point or another. It can happen so easily. You’re at a party, digging the vibe, and next thing you know it’s just you, the host, and their cat. Maybe you’ve tried to set up two of your friends with each other, then linger too long to admire your work. Who among us hasn’t said, “One more thing,” after a friend you’re facetiming has yawned/said they’re tired/ fallen asleep?! Overstaying your welcome can happen to the best of us! The key is acknowledging it and not doubling down.
For instance, let’s say you’ve been credibly accused of sexual misconduct. Save for a few notable exceptions, the industry you’ve devoted your life to has justifiably kicked you to the curb. They even went to great lengths to remove you from a project that had already been completed. But you won’t relent! You release strange videos claiming your innocence. A television show allows you to come on and cry, and stop just short of saying, “Woe is me.” If this sounds like you, you’re noted creep, Kevin Spacey!
Spacey has been blacklisted from Hollywood for almost seven years now (oh, how time flies). Unlike many of his s***ty counterparts, Spacey did not go away quietly. He didn’t write an op-ed about Cancel Culture and fade away like a fart in the wind. Kevin Spacey has done everything he can to claw his way back into relevance. Luckily, it hasn’t worked. That hasn’t stopped him from digging in his heels and refusing to leave his Baltimore mansion despite it being foreclosed on.
Sam Asgari, a real estate developer, purchased Spacey’s Bethesda, MD home for $3.24 million last month. According to a statement from Asgari, despite the forced sale, Spacey has refused to leave the property. “Right now, he’s refusing to leave,” Asgari told The Baltimore Banner. “He’s asking for six months to leave the property without paying anything.” Spacey’s lawyers have responded. Saying simply, “The accusation by Mr. Asgari is false.”
It gives me no pleasure to side with a real estate developer. They’re the worst. So, I won’t say I’m on Sam Asgari’s side. Regardless, I doubt his accusation is false. Spacey has shown no tact or class in handling the accusations against him. Refusing to leave a place he’s been kicked out of is his MO. It’s what he does (or doesn’t do). It’s also hard for me to sympathize with someone because they can’t afford their $ 20,000-a-month mortgage, especially when they own other homes. Go away, Kevin. This is beyond embarrassing.
