Yesterday, Justin Timberlake released the music video for his big comeback single, “Selfish”. That title is… on the nose. “Selfish” is the lead single off his upcoming album, Everything I Thought It Was. It’s been five whole years since he released his last album, Man of the Woods.

It takes a brave completely delusional man to release new music just three months after his ex completely destroyed what was left of his reputation in her memoir. Sure enough, the Britney Spears stans were on Justin’s ass faster than you can say, “This song is meh.”

Ya see, Brit-Brit also has a song called “Selfish”. It’s a track from the deluxe version of her 2011 album, Femme Fatale. So, yesterday, in what Entertainment Weekly describes as “an act of pure pop pettiness,” the fans decided to push Britney’s “Selfish” up the charts. They were inspired by this tweet:

And guess what? Their plot worked:

Britney fan account BritneyxTube told Entertainment Weekly that the movement started as “a joke,” but “then we all joined in, saying that Britney Spears was coming back with a ‘brand’ new song.” They add that they can’t believe it actually worked. “We are all so happy to see her song making a comeback after all these years!!!”

Last night, 42-year-old Justin went on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote his new music and announce his upcoming tour. It’s called “The Forget Tomorrow World Tour.” Baby, you better be praying people forget yesterday, that’s the only way you’re gonna sell out this tour!

Here’s the clip. I only watched the first minute (a gal can only take so much overrated white men), but Justin seems a little nervous. When the audience cheers his entrance, Jimmy the Sycophant has to assure him, “THEY LOVE YOU!”:

Interesting tidbit: Every single one of the comments on that YouTube video is positive: “That’s perfect BFF goals,” “That Selfish song is so good OMG, thank you JT for your hard work,” and “These guys are the best duo ever. They need a show together. Or a pod just goofing. I’m dying,” etc. etc. etc. It’s the same in the comment section for JT’s new music video.

Those poor unpaid interns at NBC and RCA Records must have been deleting comments from Britney stans all night. My thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
