Love her or hate her, Julia Fox is everywhere. She is, in Brat parlance, “So Julia.” She’s one of those celebrities/influencers one might accuse of being a little bit too real; too open about her personal life. Lately, she’s been very open about her love life and sexuality, and how it’s been changing. A year ago, when comedian Ziwe asked her if she was dating, she said “Why would I waste my time?” When Ziwe asked her if she’d “ever tried dating women” she said, “I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently because I do think like maybe I have some…you know, I have a gay bone and I need to explore that a little bit more. Like maybe my ex-boyfriends weren’t wrong when they were calling me a lesbian and complaining that I never wanted to have sex with them.”

Then, a few months ago, she told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live! that she’d been celibate for over two years, explaining that it made her feel more in control of herself and her body after the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

And then, in July, she posted a TikTok that went viral, responding to another user making a joke about seeing lesbians with their boyfriends and thinking “Aw, she hates that man.” “That was me. I was that lesbian. So sorry boys … won’t happen again,” Fox said.

All of this speaks to the power of manifestation and speaking your dreams out loud if you ask me, because it was just announced she will be starring in the upcoming romantic drama Perfect from director Millicent Hailes.

Per Variety, Perfect “is set at a scenic-but-rundown lakeside resort in the California mountains in a time where climate change has contaminated the water supply. Fox will play a wealthy pregnant woman who is living out an escapist fantasy as she falls in love with a younger woman.”

The role seems tailor-made for Fox at this point in her life and career - a wealthy woman shedding societal expectations to embrace a new love and, potentially, a new self. Despite all the somewhat ridiculous bluster, there’s just something about Fox that I find interesting. I’m not a betting woman, but if I were, I would bet this is the role that finally gets her taken seriously.
