Jon Stewart Saved Some Goats, That's Not Slang Or A Strange Euphemism

One of the rare pleasures of the New York City subway system is complaining about the many ways it is terrible. Lamenting about the MTA is practically a local past time, and comparing notes on the especially bonkers occurrences is essentially a form of greeting among New Yorkers. So, good morning. Did you hear about how former Daily Show host Jon Stewart rescued some goats from being electrocuted by the third rail?

On Monday, the MTA’s official Twitter account revealed two goats chose to chill on some above ground tracks on Brooklyn’s N line.

Gothamist noted the goats caused no delays to the line and were quick to garner an online fandom. Variety reports the animals were tranquilized and removed from the tracks by the NYPD.

From there, the cops handed these kooky kids off to Animal Care, or more specifically Farm Sanctuary, an American animal protection organization that Stewart’s been involved with for years. When it came time to take the goats to a sanctuary farm up in Watkins Glen, New York, the comedian was spotted playing goatherder.

The New York Times notes the origin of the goats is unknown, but it’s suspected they escaped a slaughterhouse. And now, Stewart and his wife Tracey Stewart, who is on Farm Sanctuary’s board of directors, have whisked them away to an upstate sanctuary where they’ll be safe from butchery. In a statement, Farm Sanctuary’s spokeswoman, Meredith Turner-Smith said, “There, they will receive medical examinations and the world-class, individualized care.” And we assume pets from the Stewarts.

NY1 was quick to point out this isn’t the first time the Stewarts were heroes to a runaway farm animal. In April of 2016, the couple rescued a confused cow that’d wandered near a college campus in Queens.

Is it too soon to wish for the Stewarts to get an animal-rescuing reality TV series?
