Joe Alwyn has finally opened up about his breakup with Taylor Swift in April of last year in a recent interview with Sunday Times Magazine. When asked if he’d listened to the album reportedly about him, The Tortured Poets Department, he made it clear that he hasn’t. Or he does every night and screams with rage, you decide:
“I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship with over six and a half years,” he said, through gritted teeth I’m sure. “This is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.” Haven’t heard that one before.
Then he, you know, basically said none of it was true.
“So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition. And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that.”
In other words, “I bet you think about me, when you say, ‘Oh my god, she’s insane, she wrote a song about me.’”
But, even though he’s alluding to her smearing his good name, he wouldn’t talk about specific details because he said they made a pact to keep those things private. “I’m sure you can appreciate, given the level of noise and scrutiny about my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to just open the door to things like that right now,” he said.
That “right now” is doing a lot of work. Am I hearing tell-all?
