Congratulations are in order for Jennifer Lawrence, who is expecting her first child.
The actress’s rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that she and her husband, art dealer Cooke Maroney, will soon become parents. Lawrence married Maroney, a man with a name so amazing that it’s a shame he’s not secretly a 1920s gangster, in October 2019. The pair are very low-key and Lawrence has not talked much about her husband in the press. Granted, Lawrence has been very much off the celebrity grid for the past few years. Her most recent film, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, was released in 2019. Lawrence avoids social media and previously admitted to wanting to take time off for fear of over-exposure. She’ll soon appear in the Netflix comedy Don’t Look Up alongside an all-star cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, and Ariana Grande.
It’s unknown how far along in her pregnancy she is, but she wouldn’t be the first major star to keep such news private over the past year and a half. Indeed, lockdown babies have been a pretty big trend in Hollywood, and even some of the most famous people on the planet have managed to keep a tight leash on press coverage of their new arrivals. It’s a noted contrast from the era of the celebrity baby industrial complex, where one could expect to see stars of Lawrence’s caliber reveal the tot to the public with a People magazine spread. While they were the first publication to confirm the news, the details were noticeably scant. This isn’t a game that the stars necessarily need to play along with anymore. If you want to keep that stuff locked down, you totally can. Hell, look at Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, who most people didn’t even know were together or expecting until she was photographed walking around with a baby. It can be done!
So, many congrats to JLaw and Mr. Maroney.
