Jared Leto, a man whose career continues to thrive despite countless creep/asshole/cult leader allegations, just climbed the Empire State Building. Why, you ask? To promote the upcoming Thirty Seconds to Mars world tour. Oh wow. That’s basically the dumbest reason anyone’s ever done anything.

Entertainment Weekly says 51-year-old Jared is the first person to legally climb the Empire State Building (King Kong was a fictional monster and he didn’t have permission). Except, um, Jared didn’t actually scale the whole skyscraper. He only climbed from the 86th to 104th floor. It took him twenty minutes.

After his brief climb, Jared went on the Today Show for an interview. He said:

“I was more excited than nervous to tell you the truth,” Leto said. “But I have to be honest, it was very, very hard. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Just the endurance that it took, the stamina that it took, and it was very sharp.”

Jared, a man who possesses impossibly high levels of endurance and stamina, raised his bloody left hand to show off just how sharp the skyscraper was. In response to one of the hosts asking, “Why did you want to do this?” Jared explains that he’s always had a fascination with the Empire State Building, he loves to climb, and it was “in celebration of the tour and, you know, doing those things that you aspire to do.”

Even though Jared had already mentioned the Thirty Seconds to Mars tour a couple of times, Al Roker clearly wasn’t listening and said, “You got an exciting announcement for us!” A confused Jared leaned in and asked, “I did what?” “You have an exciting announcement for us about the band,” Al repeated. Jared clued in and said, “I do! Yes! The tour… the world tour. It’s called Seasons: The World Tour 2024. We are going on tour!” Then the outdoor audience, full of tourists from the Midwest who’ve for sure never heard of Thirty Seconds to Mars, broke into a big cheer.

Here’s Jared’s full Today Show interview:

And his Instagram post, which includes clips of him and his bandmate/brother performing on top of the Empire State Building:

Ya know what I just realized? Before I clicked on that Instagram post, I’d never heard a Thirty Seconds to Mars song in my whole entire life. Huh. I sure wish I could go back to that time.
