It's Weird that Justin Theroux Takes His Shirt Off on Flights, Right?

I like Justin Theroux because The Leftovers is one of my all-time favorite shows, and he was fantastic in it. That’s typical of whatever I’ve seen him in, whether it’s Mosquito Coast or Parks and Recreation. Outside of his much-publicized relationship with Jennifer Aniston, his acting style suggests he’s an intense person — and that’s also the parody perception of him on The Other Two — although that is not what I have gathered from hearing him on podcasts. He’s kind of a hipster bro who is friends with everyone because he doesn’t have kids and he always has time to hang out. He’s close friends with a lot of celebrities because he seems like that guy who you call when you’re in town (“town,” in this case, being New York City). He’s a modern-day man-about-town, and if the tabloid articles are true, the reason why he and Aniston split is that their relationship didn’t afford him enough time to hang with his pals.

None of that is particularly relevant to this article. No, the thing that I can’t seem to erase from my mind is something he said on the Smartless podcast nearly three months ago. I think about it a lot — in fact, every time I see Theroux now — and it is this: Justin Theroux sleeps on planes without a shirt. He openly admitted on the podcast that yes, it is a thing that he does. On cross-country flights, before he nods off, Justin Theroux removes his shirt because that’s what he would do at home. Why not on a plane other than the fact that, like, a plane is not his home.

This is weird, right? Nobody else removes their shirt, do they? I won’t even take off my shoes, because that’s not OK, either. Hell, I rarely remove my shirt at home except to take a shower. Granted, as Theroux says, it’s not like he flies in cabin. He’s in first class with the fancy seats you can lie down in, and he has a blanket over him (although, as Bateman notes, it’s not like the blanket is gonna stay on while he’s asleep).

But you still oughtn’t take off your shirt on an airplane, even if you are super wealthy and have cut abs. And you know what? I don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion.
