It Took ONE DAY For a British Journalist to Be Racist Towards Meghan and Harry's Newborn Baby

Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, announced last night the arrival of their newborn baby. Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana is named after her great-grandmother’s family nickname as well as her late grandmother. It’s a sweet name and a cute gesture. Who could be mad at a baby? Who in the British press could possibly be awful enough to take this lovely moment and sh*t racism everywhere? To those in the know, the answer should surprise absolutely nobody.

Julie Burchill is, to use the professional term, the absolute f**king worst. A columnist and author who got her start at NME, she’s primarily known for being a staggering bigot who pretends that her garden variety racism, sexism, and transphobia is some form of brave provocation against the establishment she’s a part of. This is the woman who said, ‘When the sex war is won prostitutes should be shot as collaborators for their terrible betrayal of all women.’ This is the creep who wrote an entire book about her Philo-Semitism wherein she bragged about having spilled blood over a Torah and that ‘meeting a dumb Jew’ was ‘like meeting a gay man who can’t dance.’ In 2013, the Observer pulled a column written by Burchill that described trans people as ‘screaming mimis’, ‘bed-wetters in bad wigs’, and ‘d**ks in chicks’ clothing.’ In 2002, she called the Irish flag ‘the Hitler-licking, altar boy molesting, abortion banning Irish Tricolour.’

Honestly, I could be here all damn day talking about Burchill’s decades’ worth of bigotry, but there are two specific things you need to know going forward: One, Burchill is yet another mouthpiece writing a book about how evil ‘woke culture’ is, and two, this March, she was forced to issue an apology and pay substantial damages to journalist Ash Sarkar after she claimed that Sarker condones pedophilia and supports Islamic terrorism. So understand this: Burchill has been doing this for decades and the British media has upheld her as an important voice despite it being financially and morally unwise for them to do so.

On Twitter, Burchill made this comment.

Yeah. Pretty horrific, right? Calling the baby ‘it’ and then comparing a mixed-race child who is only a few days old to a Black man murdered by the police. I’ve already seen the cries of ‘it’s a joke’ but what’s the joke? Seriously, what is the punchline here? That because the baby isn’t white that she should expect to be killed one day?

That’s the thing about Burchill and her lot: their ‘provocations’ are almost always witless, unoriginal, and obsessed with punching down. Even 4Chan get more creative than this.

Burchill is already bragging that her tweet was reported multiple times and found not to be in violation of Twitter’s rules, which is yet another strike against that hellsite and its obvious disinterest in protecting its most vulnerable users. What is most tedious about all of this is that Burchill will get a ton of opportunities from this. I guarantee that she’ll quickly run off to the Spectator or Spiked Online or whatever crusty rag of a publication is willing to pay. She’ll bemoan how cancel culture keeps trying to censor her. A bunch of rent-a-gob think-piece writers will proclaim their solidarity with her. All of the supposedly liberal sites that claim they disagree with her will give her further opportunities to spread hate and claim it’s about ‘inspiring a rigorous debate.’ And once again, we’ll see another slew of headlines claiming that Meghan and her children have never been subjected to racism.

So the next time you see the royal press claiming that Harry and Meghan are being divas or whatever, just remember that they all watched a prominent journalist racially abuse a newborn baby and said nothing.
