Is Sarah Michelle Gellar Back as Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

Ok, so I’m not going to get your hopes up here, because I’m probably looking too deeply into this, but I just miss Buffy the Vampire Slayer a lot, ok? I love her and the show, and yes, maybe I broke into the high school it was filmed at a few years ago on a Saturday, took pictures by the iconic fountain (that word is way overused in 2019 but here it applies) and paid homage to Jenny Calendar outside of the computer lab, which is very close to said fountain. That’s just a normal Saturday in Los Angeles!

Anyway, Buffy, I mean Sarah, is set to reprise her scream queen role in a commercial for the Super Bowl (which we all know is the best part about that thing, especially now that it’s confirmed Maroon 5 is playing the halftime show. Boring!) A teaser for her Olay spot was released, and it definitely looks like she’s recreating that one scene she was in, in Scream 2: Electric Boogaloo. So, yeah, am I digging deep to hope that a dumb commercial where Sarah Michelle Gellar is set up to be a victim in a ’90s horror movie morphs into her becoming Buffy by the end of it to save the day while quipping something sassy?

Duh. Of course I am.

…but it could happen. It’s within the realm of possibility.

I know a few of you are already priming up your righteous outrage over the fact that commercials now have hype before their release, and man, I feel you—but don’t deny me the dream of Buffy, ok? I am not someone who follows sports (other than the Olympics,) and I know people are excited (or not) for this game to go down. All I can really tell you about any of it is that my bonehead of an ex bought Tom Brady’s autobiography and nutritional outline book, and the guy doesn’t eat nightshades (you know, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and their ilk,) which is weird, right? Also, I know he cheats and likes Trump, so…go, other team!

I mean, I probably (ok, definitely) won’t be watching the Super Bowl when it’s on to see if my theory about SMG becoming Buffy once more holds water, but I’m sure I’ll hear about it on the Overlord Slack channel, and friends, I really hope I’m right.

By now you’re thinking to yourself that this is all just a really thin way to justify talking about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and how great it is, which you’re absolutely correct. I look forward to seeing the A+ gif game in the comments, and reigniting the age-old debate between who was better: Angel or Spike (Angel, always and forever.)
