C'mon, We All Know Drew Barrymore Has Worked With Less Talented People Than Jake Gyllenhaal

James Corden, when he’s not voicing a certain fan-favorite rabbit, might actually be the devil. Witness this segment from his late night show, “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts,” wherein he and two actors (John Boyega and Drew Barrymore) take turns either answering uncomfortable questions or eating unsettling foodstuffs.

First off, let me just say that I actually would happily eat some of those things rather than give James Corden even an ounce of satisfaction. Spam smoothie? I’ve had worse. Dried Squid Ice Cream? What if it’s secretly DELICIOUS? But then I look at the cups of bird saliva and I can only assume Corden’s team is straight-up lying about that shit. Because how do you source it? Oh… nevermind. You can literally buy edible bird nests made of swallow saliva (snicker), and apparently, they’re a good source of protein! Ok then, moving on…

In the first round, both Drew and John opted to eat rather than divulge painful answers, but after a swig of bird saliva Drew was much more willing to open up in the second round. When faced with turkey testicles, Drew decided to answer her question, which was to rank three of her co-stars from most to least talented. Her options were Adam Sandler, Hugh Grant, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Initially, she just jumps to peg Jake as the weakest, in her excitement to get away from the gonads, but James pushes her and she ranks them as you’d probably expect: Adam, Hugh, then Jake. While profusely apologizing to Jake, and saying she doesn’t care if he hates her because she doesn’t want to puke on television.

And, look. People are making a big deal out of this. The following day, Drew even showed up at the premiere event for the second season of her Netflix series, Santa Clarita Diet, holding an “I <3 Jake Gyllenhaal” sign. But c’mon! Obviously she likes working with Adam Sandler — they’ve starred opposite each other in The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, and Blended, so something must be bringing her back for more. As for Hugh Grant, they starred opposite each other in Music & Lyrics, and while Grant has admitted he thinks Barrymore hated him at the time, that doesn’t mean she can’t respect his talent. After all, they both had to sing together.

As for Jake? Well, she played his teacher in Donnie Darko, so it’s not like they had quite the same level of interaction as she had with her romance co-stars. Also, he was only like 21 at the time! Really, the blame for this entire fiasco lies squarely with James Corden, for picking such a shit list of options. Where was Kevin Connolly, who played opposite Drew in He’s Just Not That Into You? Or what about Justin Long, her Going The Distance co-star turned real-life love interest? I bet she’s got some thoughts on him! Hell, she starred with Jimmy Fallon in some fucking baseball movie, back when he was trying to act — why the fuck didn’t you ask about THAT, Corden?

What I’m saying is, if they’d included Timothy Olyphant in the mix, we all know he would have won.

What do you all think? Who is Drew’s least talented co-star of all time?
