In The Continued Adventures Of Johnny Depp Is An Entitled Asshat

The legal battle between Johnny Depp and his ex-managers is heating up, with more dirty laundry being aired. Depp says they mismanaged his money; the former managers say Depp’s spending was out of control and he wouldn’t listen to reason. Depp responded (we assume with a churlish huff) “If I want to buy 15,000 cotton balls a day, it’s my thing.”

Because a cotton ball habit was the problem, not the “45 luxury vehicles, 70 collectible guitars and enough Hollywood memorabilia to fill 12 storage facilities” and “a chain of islands in the Bahamas” into which—the BBC reports—he’s poured his fat paychecks for playing pirates, Native Americans, and living cartoons.

Now, it’s not unusual for big movie stars to be wild spenders. If anything, it’s often part of their roguish appeal. But Depp’s reckless spending is less charming when connected to stories of his alleged abuse of now ex-wife Amber Heard. Yet his apologists have long-defended the star by insisting he’s a creative genius and so must be a good guy. But now his managers are revealing that Depp gives little more than a wet fart on set, much less enough care to bother learning his lines.

The Management Group claim Depp spends “hundreds of thousands of dollars” to keep a sound engineer on retainer who can feed him his lines on set, presumably through an earpiece. The court document filed on Monday says Depp’s employed this costly trick for years. If this is true, it appears this—along with Depp’s cringing reliance on outrageous costumes and distracting prosthetics—is proof he really doesn’t give a flying fuck about his craft anymore. So, we await to see how die-hard Depp fans respond. But this is not even the managers’ most damning reveal. The ex-managers have also scoffed over Depp’s claim that the $30k he spends on wine a month is an “investment.”

The Management Group quipped, “Wine is not an investment if you drink it as soon as you buy it.”
