I wonder what it’s like to be Daniel Craig right now? The world seems to have decided whether he wants to or not, it’s time for Craig to vacate 007’s seat,
and we’ve all been actively suggesting his replacements.
After first laying odds on Damien Lewis,
bookmakers have now elevated Tom Hardy to the number one position.
For me, this tosses my brain into the air a little bit, because even though I really, really, really agree that Idris would be the perfect 007, it’s quite possible Hardy (who just announced he’s got another Baby Hardy on the way) would bring a little something extra to the Bond table…
(Hardy with his dog, Woodstock at the Legend premiere)
making him pretty darned hard to resist.
for the role — he also employs a lovely life philosophy, even when other people are less than charming about him. Following Bond author, Anthony Horowitz’s assessment that Elba is “too street” to play 007, Idris left this perfect response on his Instagram:
But, Idris also says there are no active discussions involving him — no Bond producers or studio people have contacted him — and…
“If human beings want to know if there’s any connectivity between all of us, the one thing I’ve heard around the world universally is that, ‘You’ll be great at James Bond!’ If it should happen, that’s proof there’s connectivity amongst human beings. If everyone wants something, they can make it happen. That would be true.”
So basically, we’ve got to use the Force?
Get on it, people.
Meanwhile, poor DC isn’t sure what the hell’s going on. In this Esquire interview, the reporter thought Craig was already committed to doing one more after Spectre. Craig’s response:
“I don’t know. I really don’t know. Honestly. I’m not trying to be coy. At the moment I can’t even conceive it.”
Would he like to?
“”At this moment, no. I have a life and I’ve got to get on with it a bit. But we’ll see.”
Sounds a bit worn down from Spectre, which he calls “Skyfall times 10.”
And that, my friends, is the word on (at least) three Bonds.
