Arrow was a revelation for me. It started at the early height of the superhero boom. It was dark, well-written (from what I remember), and had some incredible acting (despite being a soap opera with domino masks). Yes, the first season was a ripoff of Batman Begins, plot-wise, but why not borrow from the best? As big as Arrow was, it didn’t prepare me for The Flash. The Flash television show gave me more than I thought possible from a cable superhero show. It had movie-like special effects, the same quality as Arrow, and the charming Grant Gustin in the lead.

I didn’t watch Glee, so I wasn’t familiar with Gustin. My lack of familiarity, coupled with the show’s desire to make this Flash feel fresh and new, allowed me to thoroughly see the actor as The Flash. There’s no way around it, I’m afraid. I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch him in anything else. I didn’t even finish The Flash! I fell off around season four for various reasons. Regardless, I see Grant Gustin as the Flash, and I’m not the only one.

Ryan Reynolds seems to be the one celebrity that every celebrity likes. I’m sure you could find someone who doesn’t care for the star of Just Friends, but if the man can get Rick Moranis out of retirement to stare at him on camera, there must be something there to like. For instance, I’m sure Grant Gustin is ready to move on from being the Flash. He played the character for almost ten years! Like me (and this is where our similarities end), Ryan Reynolds also sees Grant as Barry Allen. At least, he does in his commercials.

This is a fun ad. I don’t care what mobile service you use. I think everyone would be better off with a couple of cans and some string. Still, I saw Gustin looking the least like the Flash that he has in years and felt compelled to share. It’s also a fun ad, and both men are fun in it. Gustin is moving on, but not entirely. He looks different, but he’ll never outrun his past. Not with people like Ryan Reynolds and me in the world.
