Freddie Prinze Jr. Tries to Start a Fight with Kiefer Sutherland, Fails Miserably

Listen, we all know Kiefer Sutherland has had his issues with Christmas trees (who can blame him, those prickly bastards), and possibly — allegedly — a fashion designer or two, but he seems to take his acting job seriously enough. The award winning 24: Live Another Day actor managed to knock out nine seasons as Jack Bauer on Fox (in itself an accomplishment), but “Day 8” co-star, Freddie Prinze Jr. decided now is the time to slam Sutherland. While promoting Star Wars Rebels at Comic-Con this weekend, Prinze made the following statements:

“I did ‘24,’ it was terrible. I hated every moment of it. Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That’s not me talking trash, I’d say it to his face, I think everyone that’s worked with him has said that.”

“I just wanted to quit the business after that. So, I just sort of stopped. I went and worked for Vince McMahon at the WWE for Christ’s sake and it was a crazier job than working with Kiefer. But, at least he was cool and tall. I didn’t have to take my shoes off to do scenes with him, which they made me do. Just put the guy on an apple box or don’t hire me next time. You know I’m 6 feet and he’s 5’4.”

Wait just a damned minute…Freddie Prinze Jr. is pissed because Kiefer Sutherland is short? That’s a low blow, dude. And excuse me, but the interwebs say Kiefer is 5’ 9”, so there.

I don’t know why exactly I feel so defensive of Sutherland, but it does really rub me the wrong way when people go public with shit like this years after it happened, in a completely non-related moment. It feels like a cheap shot. And apparently Kiefer’s staying classy (for now), not taking the bait. His representative responded thusly:

“Kiefer worked with Freddie Prinze, Jr. more than 5 years ago, and this is the first he has heard of Freddie’s grievances. Kiefer enjoyed working with Freddie and wishes him the best.”

Now, ever-reliable (and über classy) TMZ has more details on Freddie’s grievances, with “inside sources” saying Prinze thought Kiefer was “temperamental, cow-towed (sic) to by producers,” and “often showed up to set drunk.”

A Fox “official” countered by saying “Kiefer was “nothing but professional during the run of the show and is beloved by cast and crew. It’s so out of left field, 5 years later. We wouldn’t have done another ‘24’ if Kiefer were anything like Freddie described.”

Your move, Freddie.
