It began the other day, when Seth MacFarlane — who has, I don’t know? 17 shows on the Fox Network? — spoke out against Fox News, which is owned by the same company:
In other words, don’t think critically, don’t consult multiple news sources, and in general, don’t use your brain. Just blindly obey Fox News. This is fringe shit, and it’s business like this that makes me embarrassed to work for this company. https://t.co/kC7MPYxdgZ— Seth MacFarlane (@SethMacFarlane) June 16, 2018
Soon thereafter, MacFarlane donated $2.5 million to NPR.
Judd Apatow spoke out next, and he’s taking no prisoners. Apatow is calling for a total boycott of Fox.
You can’t just boycott Fox News. You have to boycott Fox everything. Movies, TV, sports, business, books. Shut it all off. Stop buying. They support the kidnapping of children and babies. #boycottfox https://t.co/4gZWiFI01n— Judd Apatow (@JuddApatow) June 20, 2018
And he’s calling on other Fox talent to speak up.
If EVERY Fox Star and show runner said this policy was evil and protested to the Murdoch family it would make a huge difference in this national debate. https://t.co/9Jo0ktbFPT— Judd Apatow (@JuddApatow) June 18, 2018
And it’s working. Steve Levitan — the showrunner on Modern Family — announced that he will not re-up his deal with Fox, which produces the show.
Let me officially join @SethMacFarlane in saying I’m disgusted to work at a company that has anything whatsoever to do with @FoxNews. This bullshit is the opposite of what #ModernFamily stands for. https://t.co/dnvIbgoIyA— Steve Levitan (@SteveLevitan) June 19, 2018
Paul Feig has spoken up, too:
I have made two films for 20th Century Fox and love the people in the movie and TV divisions. But I too cannot condone the support their news division promotes toward the immoral and abusive policies and actions taken by this current administration toward immigrant children. https://t.co/6JqIQPjepV— Paul Feig (@paulfeig) June 19, 2018
So have Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, the showrunners of How I Met Your Mother.
I am a former show-runner of a Fox-produced show. My son has special needs. I'd like to add my voice to those condemning Fox News for its heartlessness — I can't imagine ever working for this corporation again in its current form. @JuddApatow @SteveLevitan @CarterBays #HIMYM https://t.co/Wn2igUUCZV— Craig Thomas (@HimymCraig) June 20, 2018
My time at 20th Century Fox was the happiest 12 years of my career. My first two bosses at Fox were @SteveLevitan and @SethMacFarlane, amazing guys who both taught me a whole lot. And today I stand with them. @FoxNews has damaged America. Shame on all of us. https://t.co/GaUQ7Dq3zS— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) June 20, 2018
And Stephen Falk, the showrunner of FX’s You’re the Worst.
Though I am no Seth MacFarlane or Steve Levitan, I have a show on FX, (a network I wholeheartedly love), and I applaud them for speaking out against Fox News’ support of this administration’s appalling treatment of immigrant children. I share in their disgust and heartbreak.— Stephen Falk (@stephenfalk) June 19, 2018
Marti Noxon has weighed in:
I have a very successful film on @netflix, #ToTheBone, created #GirlfriendsGuide @BravoGG2D, @DietlandAMC and the upcoming @SharpObjects_Tv on @HBO and co-created #UnReal. After #Buffy and a short stint on #Glee, I have not worked for #Fox nor will I. @melsil @aishatyler— marti "no, nope, fuck this" noxon (@martinoxon) June 19, 2018
So has Liz Meriwether, showrunner of New Girl.
I am horrified and disgusted and furious. I don’t know what adding my voice ultimately means to the powers that be, but I have to speak out. This must stop. https://t.co/5TtKaeS7zY— Liz Meriwether (@lizmeriwether) June 20, 2018
And Adam Scott:
As a FOX employee I’m disgusted by @FoxNews and their support for & blatant lying about state-sponsored child abuse. https://t.co/r6gkqHQDzq— Adam Scott (@mradamscott) June 19, 2018
And Apatow is not letting up.
Have any of the showrunners or stars of these shows spoken publicly about their bosses supporting the kidnapping of babies? If Fox told the truth to their viewers maybe Republicans would find the courage to fight this evil. https://t.co/5mefQBuWTs— Judd Apatow (@JuddApatow) June 20, 2018
And if you’re curious, here are more shows owned by Fox News:
Where you at, The Simpsons cast?
I don’t know what the Fox Network airs over the summer, but the least we can do is boycott the network. Thankfully, much of 20th Century Fox will be extricated from the Murdochs through a sale (to either Disney or Comcast). However, the Murdochs will retain control of the Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Television Stations, Fox News, the Fox Business Network, and Fox Sports. If you watch any of those networks, now is a good time to stop. I think you can probably survive without a steady dose of Gordan Ramsey this summer.
