Say what you want about Bryan Singer’s X-Men films, but I have never come across a movie that so completely sucks you in. I can’t count the number of times I’ve flipped to First Class thinking “I’ll just watch until that scene with Erik in the bar.” Or to Days Of Future Past thinking “Just until the breakout at the Pentagon.” Then 90 minutes later, the credits role and I realize I’m late for something.
And while the performances and chemistry between Michael Fassbender’s Magneto and James McAvoy’s Professor X have always been a favorite part for me, I’m worried their recent appearance on Conan might have ruined something.
DID YOU HEAR THOSE ACCENTS? Jesus H. Xavier, why would you make them change those? I know, I know. The character’s history and background. Fine. But really Bryan Singer should have figured something out. I feel like I’ll never be able to fully enjoy the movies again knowing that all of Professor X’s proper British lines could have been delivered in McAvoy’s brogue. Or that restrained, tight- lipped Magneto could have been speaking in that amazing Irish clip. Ugh.
Then again, this still exists so …
Also for me personally, I’ll always be partial to “FassAvoy.”
