Designer Alexander Wang has been accused of multiple instances of sexual assault. The industry favorite, best known for dressing celebrities like the Kardashian-Jenner family and the Hadids, has been accused of drugging people, groping them, coercing people into unwanted sexual activity, and plying them with alcohol until they became flat-out drunk.
One accuser, model Owen Mooney, took to social media to tell their story, which quickly went viral thanks to the work of fashion-focused accounts Diet Prada and ShitModelManagement. Mooney described an incident wherein ‘a really famous fashion designer’ groped him in a club. After initially keeping the accusation anonymous, Mooney then revealed Wang’s name after another user guessed it and further accusations against him came out.
The ShitModelManagement account began sharing further accusations against Wang, including claims that he raped a number of people. Many reports noted that Wang allegedly drugs individuals with water laced with MDMA or plies them with alcohol until they are borderline-unconscious. As noted by Diet Prada, Wang’s personal image, as well as that of the fashion brand that includes his name, has been built around a ‘hard-partying, anything-goes ethos, creating “walk of shame”-inspired campaigns and even casting R. Kelly in his SS17 campaign.’ This all takes on a far more insidious quality when you note how many of the accusations made against him note his habit of drugging his alleged victims.
Diet Prada also detailed that accusations against Wang have circulated online for a few years now, with rapper and former Wang muse Azealia Banks sharing messages from anonymous users last year that described Wang as ‘a serial predator’ who ‘sexually assaults trans women.’
So far, Wang has not commented on these accusations. His coterie of celebrity friends and clients have also remained quiet. The Model Alliance, an advocacy group for fashion industry workers, posted a message of solidarity with Wang’s accusers.
Wang has been a prominent part of the fashion industry for over 15 years. He was the creative director of Balenciaga from November 2012 through July 2015. His work is especially popular with the likes of Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Bella Hadid, all of whom have called him their friend.
