Elon Musk Booed By People From Whom He Desperately Wants Approval. Again

I have never understood the appeal of watching other people play video games. I have played video games for as long as I can remember, and even at a time when systems were harder to come by, watching someone else play was always boring to me. I can do this myself! Why should I watch someone else have the fun I could be having? They’re better at it than me? Who cares? I found the world of video game spectating to be odd and impenetrable. Until a stadium full of them booed Elon Musk.

VALORANT Champions 2023, an esports tournament for the game Valorant, ended this past weekend. Elon Musk was in attendance. When fans of the esports event were made aware of his presence, they booed the s*** out of him. It happens immediately. The man barely gets to notice that he’s on the screen. Then, after the people in charge mercifully cut away from the bitter billionaire, the crowd begins a rousing chant of, “Bring back Twitter!”

This is not the first time Musk has been booed in a public space, nor will it be the last. Still, getting booed at a Chappelle show makes sense. Musk has no business being near stand-up comedy (or whatever Chappelle is doing these days). An esports tournament? Those are supposed to be Musk’s “people.” He has tried to paint himself as a humble nerd for years, yet even the ilk he claims reject him.

It’s amazing to watch a man piss away as much goodwill as he has. But that’s what happens when your main pursuit in life is to be liked. If he wasn’t so thirsty for approval, he may actually get some. Instead, people see his many masks. They see a desperate man who has nothing of value to offer. His best ideas are long behind him (if they were even his, to begin with) and what lies ahead is a wealth of embarrassment.
