We’ve written before about the feud between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel that began on the set of The Fate of the Furious two years ago. It all came to the public’s attention when Johnson posted a now-deleted screed to his Instagram account.

“An incredible hard working crew. Universal Studios Entertainment has been great partners as well. My female co-stars are always amazing and I love ‘em. My male co-stars however are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken shit to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses.”

Speculation immediately began before Diesel was settled on as the subject of Johnson’s ire. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson talks about what really spurred the ‘candy asses’ comment and where he and Diesel didn’t see eye to eye. He also confirmed that there were scenes in the Fast movies where he and Diesel were onscreen together without being on set together; filmed separately before editing took over and attempted to make it appear the two were within striking distance of one another.

“Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer,” he says. “And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating. It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not.” - VIA

Johnson then goes on to say he’s concentrating on his Fast spinoff with co-star Jason STATHAM, called Hobbs and Shaw. He then says he harbors “no ill will” toward Diesel before backtracking and saying “Actually, you can erase that last part about ‘no ill will.’ We’ll just keep it with the clarity.”

After all, Johnson doesn’t need Diesel, with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle doing so well at the box office and a never-ending slate of new movies on the horizon. Diesel, however, may want to take a long, hard look in the mirror - unless he’s content with skating on Marvel paychecks from uttering “I am Groot” for a few more years.
