The Goddess known in our puny Earth language as Tilda Swinton was a guest yesterday on KCRW, the Los Angeles-based NPR station famous for having much, much better taste in music than you. She was on a program called The Guest DJ Project, and shared her “internal soundtrack,” to give us mere mortals a glimpse into what the goddess’ brain looks like. I would have guessed there’d be more gamelan and Gregorian chanting going on in there, but it’s still as weird and wonderful and spastic as you’d think.

This was her playlist:
1. Marilyn Manson - Personal Jesus

Swinton also mentioned that she and Marilyn Manson have been talking about doing a film together for years and that “he’s become a friend.” Of course. Of course those two hang out. Consider my mindhole blown.

2. Barry White - You’re the First, The Last, My Everything

Tildz played this as a tribute to Roger Ebert. She told an anecdote about rocking to this song after his death.
The last time I played it was… Roger Ebert used to have, still does, a wonderful film festival in Champagne, Illinois. And when I was there last year, which was only a few days after Roger left us, I told his wife, Chaz, about our film festival, the fact that there was a dance before every screening. When she asked me if I would do it at Ebert fest, I put this on for Roger and we all rocked this.
Another mental picture I’ll never get over.

3. David Bowie - Wild is the Wind

She describes her playlist thus far as “kind of this soundtrack that didn’t happen in some piece of work.”

4. Bjork - Mutual Core

The only person stranger than Tilda Swinton.

5. Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly) - Beautiful Ride

Because she’s Tilda F*cking Swinton and if she wants to put Dewey Cox on her internal soundtrack than she’ll damn well do it on repeat.

You can listen the the whole program on KCRW.

Vivian Kane is happy to live in a world where Tilda Swinton and Marilyn Manson hang out, probably listening to Bjork.
