Did Christian Bale Just Take a Backhanded Swipe at Batfleck?

Christian Bale is currently on publicity rounds for Ridley Scott’s “epicExodus: Gods and Kings, and of course he’s getting the inevitable questions on how he feels about passing on the Bat-ears. The actor admitted he’s had second thoughts at times, especially when he heard the official news he’d been replaced.

“I’ve got to admit initially, even though I felt that it was the right time to stop, there was always a bit of me going, ‘Oh go on… Let’s do another’. So when I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I can totally picture IntenseBale™ doing just that.

Anyhow, Bale went on to mention how he’d sent Ben Affleck an note to pass along some advice, and maybe threw in a little backhanded insult along the way? You tell me:

“But I’m 40. The fact that I’m jealous of someone else playing Batman … I think I should have gotten over it by now. I haven’t spoken with Ben, but I emailed him offering bits of advice that I learned the hard way. I would imagine he is doing everything he can to avoid anything that I did.”

So, Bale is 40 and giving up the Batman; Ben Affleck is 42, and just beginning. Sure, it might be nothing, but this coming from the guy with a pretty big ego (and a bit of a temper), I think it could have been a little dig. Anyway, Bale’s moved on to playing bigger, badder characters…so there.

“It’s a little embarrassing to compare Moses to Batman…There are similarities, you know, tragic beginning and then a heroic future. But Moses is a little more violent. I’m sure if there’d been guns around at that time, Bruce Wayne might have had a chance.”
