Did Anna Faris Really Say That About Chris Pratt?

I was driving earlier today and turned on the FM radio just in time to catch an afternoon DJ try to start some shit about Anna Faris and Chris Pratt. She was like, “Anna Faris spoke out about her marriage to Chris Pratt, and this divorce is going to get ugly,” and then she commenced to quote Faris from the latest episode of her podcast, Unqualified.

Now, I happened to listen to that podcast, because Courtney turned me on to it a couple of years back, and I will listen on occasion. While what the radio DJ was quoting on the radio sounded familiar, I had no recollection whatsoever of Faris talking about Chris Pratt on her podcast, and I would know, because thinking she might open up about her separation is exactly what I tuned in this week (what? I like celebrity gossip. Shut up).

Anyway, here’s what Faris said on the podcast, which the DJ was quoting:

“Don’t be afraid to feel your independence if everything is not right. I made that mistake a little bit, like, feeling like I’m checking my relationship off the list … know your worth. Know your independence. Know that you’re young and that there are so many people out there, there’s so much life experience … Life is too short to be in relationships where you’re not feeling this isn’t fully right, or that someone doesn’t have your back, or that someone doesn’t value you in every way.”

Faris did say these things. But the context is important here. She never actually mentioned Pratt. She was giving advice to another woman whose boyfriend wasn’t sticking up for her whenever his co-worker suggested that he was “pussy whipped.” She hated that implication, and she hated that her boyfriend wouldn’t say anything. Faris merely suggested to her that maybe she’s not in the right relationship if her boyfriend won’t stick up for her.

But, I suppose one could extrapolate those words to infer that Faris was talking about her own relationship, and then go a step further to suggest that Pratt didn’t have her back, nor did he value her, in which case you could go yet another step and conclude that their divorce is “going to get very ugly.”

But that’s a lot of implications. (Note that the radio DJ didn’t come up with this on her own; this was reported on both Buzzfeed and People magazine, as well, both of which made the same implications).
