Dave Grohl Surprises NYC Nurse With Virtual Concert

No one needs to tell you it’s tough being a healthcare worker right now. You know. You’ve seen the photos of abrasions that come from wearing PPE all day. You’ve heard the stories about the emotional toll this is taking on the doctors, nurses, and other hospital workers every day. You’ve heard about the horrifying numbers of frontline workers who have contracted COVID-19. These people are heroes who deserve to have their praises sung and so so much more. Enter Dave Grohl, who literally sang for a New York City nurse from the Bronx’s Jacobi Medical Center.

After recovering from COVID-19, TJ Riley appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to tell his story, one of heroics, hope, and support of his family and husband. Then, as a form of thanks, Kimmel surprised Riley by introducing the nurse to Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.

While talking about the past months, Riley’s eyes quiver as if he’s refusing to cry. Then, Grohl appears with a big smile and his luminous locks and Riley’s whole face transforms. It’s a shining light of joy as he says, “Dave! I’m a huge, huge fan.”

“I’m going a little out of my mind right now,” a gleeful Riley tells Grohl. “I feel like I’m having a Coronavirus dream!”

Grohl picked up his guitar to “play a little song.” Obviously, it was “My Hero.” Except it wasn’t. It was “Everlong.”

While Grohl played, the show shared a montage of photos of Riley’s, revealing his co-workers and himself at work and play. Kimmel announced the Life Apparel Company is sending gift packages to Riley’s co-workers, while this brave nurse will receive $10,000.
