Dave Chappelle Finds a Way to Stop Annoying Cell Phones at His Shows

While there’s been some great stories to come out of comedy routines going viral, particularly Hannibal Burress making everyone remember and act on the information that Bill Cosby is a rapist, it can be frustrating for any performer to know that people can get a glimpse of their shows without buying tickets. It can occasionally help small time performers, but for established acts it will cut into sales. Besides, it’s just annoying when you’re at a live show to see people sit there with their phones in the air for half the show.

Besides confiscating phones at the door (something which happens regularly at advance screenings for movies) there’s not been a way to stop this sort of behavior. But Dave Chappelle has partnered with a start up called Yonder to test a new pouch that would keep people from using their cell phones while at his shows. The pouch will lock when the audience is in the auditorium but unlock when in the lobby or other approved areas.

It sounds like a great solution; people don’t have to worry about handing their phones over to strangers and it won’t affect the way the phone works. There’s a lot of practical applications for something like this, so fingers crossed it works well for Chappelle.
