Dakota Johnson Really, Really Hated Filming Her 'Office' Finale Appearance

Last night, Dakota Johnson went on Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote Madame Web. Seth brought up the fact that, technically, he and Dakota “co-starred” in the finale of The Office back in 2013. Heh?

Turns out, it’s true. Seth cameo-ed as himself hosting SNL’s Weekend Update, during a bit where Bill Hader makes fun of Andy Bernard (Ed Helms), who went viral for crying on a TV talent show. Damn, I forgot how weird The Office got at the end. Dakota had a bigger role; she played a young accountant who replaces Kevin (Brian Baumgartner) after he gets fired. This was back when Dakota was blonde and fresh off the cancellation of her FOX sitcom, Ben and Kate.

As Seth showed Dakota pictures from the finale, her eyes glazed over like she’s having Vietnam flashbacks. Then, in typical unfiltered Dakota Johnson fashion, she dropped some messy truth bombs:

“God, that was actually the worst time of my life. I loved that show so much. And they were like, ‘Do you wanna be in the series finale?’ And I was like, ‘Of course!’ Thinking that I’d show up for like half a day. And I was there for two weeks. And I’m barely in the f*cking show!”

Then, Dakota gave the audience a look that said, “Ugh, can you believe that?” and got a big laugh. Seth followed up with, “I would also imagine, wasn’t everybody super sad?” Dakota replied:

“They were sad, and there were weird dynamics that had been going on for the last ten years. Some people didn’t speak to each other, and I’m coming in like, ‘Hahaha, I’m so excited to be here!’ And no one wanted to talk to me, nobody gave a f*ck.”

Ooooh, see, this is the extra-messy gossip I neeeeed. Who were the actors not talking to each other? Name ‘em, Dakota! NAME ‘EM. I’d actually listen to Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s Office Ladies podcast if this is the kind of tea they were spilling. Wait, do they? Should I listen to that pod?

Dakota said that, in the final edit, she was “in the background of all these scenes, faxing things.” Welp, that sounds like a goddamn dream for a regular working actor. You get to be in a big-time series finale and paid for two whole weeks of shooting? But I guess when you’re the product of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, your standards are a little higher.

Here’s the second half of Dakota’s interview with Seth. The Office stuff is around the 4:25 mark:
