Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover was not only a groundbreaking moment for the trans community, but also an instantly iconic one. So of course some opportunistic asshole has taken advantage by spinning this historical LGBTQA landmark into a cheap “trend” Halloween costume that makes a mockery of Jenner and the victory of acceptance (personal and public) she’s come to represent.
The Independent has drawn our attention to Spirit Halloween’s “Call Me Caitlyn” costume:
Despite the fact that the unisex costume is modeled by a hirsute Jeremy Renner lookalike (insult to injury?), the retailer insisted to the New York Daily News that it “celebrates (Jenner).”
There may have been a way this costume could have celebrated Jenner. But Spirit Halloween, the makers of “Tranny Granny” and “PocaHottie,” can clearly not be trusted with that responsibility.
Jenner herself has not yet responded to the $74.99 getup. However, considering the costume compares her to a dude dressing up for laughs,* we suspect she’s not flattered.
*”Laughs out of your friends and the other guests” are guaranteed along with the telling sash according to this dumb-ass costume’s product description.
