Colin Jost Remains the Worst, Blames Gender Identity Options for Trump

Colin Jost is the former head writer of Saturday Night Live who, along with Michael Che, carries with him the huge, important, and influential role of Weekend Update. We’ve talked at length about how they are quite possibly the two worst people for this job. And while many have rightfully decried the show’s decision to allow Donald Trump to host late last year, I personally place far more outrage in Weekend Update’s continuous need to present Trump and Clinton as equally terrible options right up until the week of the election.

Having said that, “this is why Trump won the election” Twitter is probably the worst Twitter. Trump won for lots of reasons, all bad. One of the biggest is obviously pervasive racism and xenophobia, as well as homophobia, transphobia and a generally ignorant terror surrounding a changing and rapidly progressing society.

In a need to unpack and understand this, many terrible humans have decided to blame the marginalized people most at risk under this administration and its devoted followers. Terrible humans like Colin Jost.

When presented with a backlash, Jost responded exactly the way you’d think a rich white moderate who thinks he’s fairly progressive would.

Hey, Colin, serious question: exactly how do we “self-examine” and ensure we never make “the same mistake again?” By conforming to the strict gender norms that clearly exist only as social constructs? By being silent? Just checking. We wouldn’t want to make any mistakes.

Of course, Jost doesn’t only blame the tiny fraction of progress and incremental freedom to express gender or lack thereof people are experiencing. He also blames people of color.

Never forget: it’s not the racists’ fault they’re racist. It’s your fault for being that race. It’s not their fault for not accepting shifts in gender identity. It’s your fault for not living in hell pretending to be someone you’re not. Glad we cleared that up.

Also, if you’re wondering if Jost is the kind of who plays devil’s advocate for acts of racism, of goddamn course he is.
