Remember back in the early aughts, when Mary Louise Parker was seven-months pregnant and her boyfriend of seven years, Billy Crudup, left her for Claire Danes, who is not only 15 years younger than Parker, but 24 at the time?
That must have been a really awkward conversation. I’m sure we’ll hear all about it when Mary Louise Parker pens her tell-all memoir about all of her ex-boyfriends, and reveals what a dick move that was on Crudup’s part.
Danes, to my knowledge, has never spoken publicly about coming in between Parker and Crudup, but to my knowledge, she’s also never been on the Howard Stern show, where Stern likes to bring up those thorny issues from the past in a shrugging, laughing, or dismissive way in order to elicit candid responses.
“That was really hard. I didn’t know how to not do that,” Danes told Stern on his XM radio show this morning. “I was just in love with him. And needed to explore that and I was 24 … I didn’t quite know what those consequences would be.”
“But it’s okay,” she continued “I went through it.”
Oh, good. I’m glad Claire Danes got through it. I’m sure that Mary Louise Parker is just as thrilled that Danes managed to make it through that very difficult time in her life, too. It must have been so hard for her, what with being 24, and single, and childless, and at the peak of her youth and popularity. It must have been a real struggle.
Maybe if we play her a song on this tiny violin it will make her feel better.
Danes, by the way, began her fifth season of Homeland on Showtime last night.
