There’s a lot going on in that headline, but that’s the gist of a story that former Saturday Night Live cast member relays in his new memoir, Baby, Don’t Hurt Me.

The long and short of the story is this: Amy Heckerling, the director of Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Clueless, was attached to direct Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan’s Night at the Roxbury, a movie based on a (very bad) SNL sketch. Paramount said they wouldn’t do the film unless Heckerling directed it, but according to Kattan, Lorne Michaels put the onus on Kattan to make Heckerling happy enough to want to direct the film.

“Christ, I’m not saying you have to f*ck her, but it wouldn’t hurt,” Michaels told Kattan. This statement from Michaels followed an actual out-of-the-blue proposition from Heckerling, in which she allegedly asked Kattan in her car, “Are we gonna have sex?”

Here’s the full account:

Kattan stated in the memoir that he “was attracted to Amy. But at the same time very afraid of the power, she and Lorne wielded over my career.”

OK, a few things here: Chris Kattan was dating Jennifer Coolidge? Stifler’s Mom? What?! Weird. Second, we don’t have Amy Heckerling’s side of this story. And three, I have no doubt that Lorne Michaels has used his power in the past to pressure people into doing things they would rather not do.

But also, do a little digging into that era of Saturday Night Live and you will find that several cast members did not get along, that Chris Kattan was often at the center of that, and that a lot of those guys (Norm MacDonald, Jim Breuer, Kattan) kind of seemed like assholes, and Tracy Morgan was neither a fan of Kattan or Cheri Oteri, because — according to Morgan — they were stuck up assholes who wouldn’t give him the time of day.

In either respect, Heckerling did not direct Night at the Roxbury (although, she was a producer); the movie — which also starred Jennifer Coolidge — tanked; and the only SNL character worse than Mr. Peepers was Mango.

Meanwhile, here’s a story that Jim Breuer has told several times, which is not flattering for Breuer, Kattan, or Norm MacDonald (although, Jim Breuer certainly seems to think that it’s flattering for MacDonald).
