*Updated* Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner Call Black Widow a Whore and the Internet Loses Its Mind

Okay, I really love Chris Evans (Renner’s not my cuppa), but this isn’t cool. During the press rounds, a reporter asked Captain America and Hawkeye what they thought about Black Widow, who many fans were shipping with “either or both” characters, now that she’s ***Spoiler alert, the reporter mentions who — with someone else. And I guess Renner thought he was being funny; Evans too, as he laughs heartily and adds his own insult, but fans are not taking the actors’ comments lightly.

Yeah, we get it; it’s a joke, but the fans aren’t pleased.

***Updated: In statements to EW, both Evans and Renner apologized for their remarks. Pardon me if I find Evans’ a little more sincere.

“Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.” (Evans)

“I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.” (Renner)
