Almost a year ago Bradley Cooper was scoring early Oscar buzz for chucking out his winsome smiles and easygoing charm to play traumatized soldier Chris Kyle in Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper. And while the brutal biopic would go on to win Best Achievement in Sound Editing, it’s big prize dreams (like Best Picture) were dashed in part because of one seriously stupid Eastwood call: employing a fake baby in a critical scene.

Yes, Clint, EVERYONE knows it was a doll.

Back on the talk show circuit to promote his upcoming dramedy Burnt, Cooper spoke confessed on Ellen just how goddamn ridiculous it was to shoot that scene with that “plastic thing.” Jump to 1:24 for the relevant bits, and you’ll miss Cooper’s on point Eastwood impression.

“I literally couldn’t believe it,” Cooper shared with a smile, “Like I couldn’t believe we were working with the plastic baby. I was like, ‘This is nuts!’”

Cooper trying to polish that turd by wiggling his thumb to give that doll some life gives us life. “Eat your heart out, Muppets,” indeed!

Kristy Puchko still wonders how any of American Sniper’s producers let that prop slide.
