Joel Kim Booster appears in the Apple TV+ series Loot with Maya Rudolph, a former Saturday Night Live cast member. Bowen Yang and Joel Kim Booster both appear in Hulu’s Fire Island together, but Joel Kim Booster also wrote it.

Unfortunately, the two are sometimes confused by people who should know better, namely people who write about the entertainment industry like The Hollywood Reporter. The outlet confused Joel Kim Booster for Bowen Yang for the second time in their reporting of a tweet by Joel Kim Booster critical of Julianna Margulies’ comments on that podcast. THR referred to Joel Kim Booster as the SNL star.

Meanwhile, in specifically reporting about how THR has repeatedly confused Bowen Yang and Joel Kim Booster, Out magazine did the exact. same. thing, misattributing a quote by Yang on Yang’s podcast to Booster.

I suspect that the author of the Out magazine article wanted to crawl into a hole and die after being called out by Joel Kim Booster. But Bowen Yang and Joel Kim Booster have been misidentified so many times that they have little interest in sparing this person’s feelings.

For what it’s worth, Out Magazine quickly apologized, writing on X: “Joel, we sincerely regret this error and moved quickly to correct it in our story. And we recognize the harmful irony of us repeating this type of mistake in a story meant to highlight your rightful frustrations at this exact issue.”
