Billy Baldwin's Ugly Response to Sharon Stone Says Much More About Him

Sharon Stone relayed a story in her memoir a few years ago about how a producer had tried to coerce her into sleeping with Billy Baldwin, her co-star in Sliver. The producer complained that the two lacked chemistry and that by sleeping with him, “his performance would get better.”

This week, Sharon Stone revealed on the Louis Theroux Podcast that the producer was the late Robert Evans, who explained to her that “he slept with Ava Gardner and I should sleep with Billy Baldwin.”

“If I could sleep with Billy, then we’d have chemistry on screen and save the movie,” Stone said that Evans told her. “The real problem was me because I was so uptight, and not like a real actress who could just f**k him and get things back on track. The real problem was I was such a tightarse.”

Stone also added a slight sideways dig at Billy Baldwin’s acting ability, saying “I didn’t have to f**k Michael Douglas. Michael could come to work and know how to hit those marks, and do that line, and rehearse and show up. Now all of a sudden I’m in the ‘I have to f**k people’ business.”

That slight dig elicited an ugly and disproportionate response from Billy Baldwin on Twitter. It’s a very Baldwin-like reaction, a mix of bluster, insecurity, and needless cruelty.

“Not sure why Sharon Stone keep talking about me all these years later?” Baldwin wrote on Twitter. “Does she still have a crush on me or is she still hurt after all these years because I shunned her advances?

It’s worth noting again here that Stone’s story is not really about Baldwin but about Robert Evans and the culture of the industry at the time.

“Did she say to her gal pal Janice Dickinson the day after I screen tested and ran into them on our MGM Grand flight back to New York … “I’m gonna make him fall so hard for me, it’s gonna make his head spin.” ???

I have so much dirt on her it would make her head spin but I’ve kept quiet.

The story of the meeting I had with Bob Evans imploring him allow me to choreograph the final sex scene in the photo below so I wouldn’t have to kiss Sharon is absolute legend.

Wonder if I should write a book and tell the many, many disturbing, kinky and unprofessional tales about Sharon?

That might be fun.

Is that story legend? Because I’ve never heard it before.

Either way, Baldwin’s response says much more about him than about whatever ephemeral accusations he’s made against Stone. For what it’s worth, Janice Dickinson denies Baldwin’s account. “As I recall Sharon never said that to me,’ she told The Daily Mail. ‘I am not sure why Billy Baldwin is bringing this up. I adore them both but that never happened.”
