I Hear It Likes the Girls: Bill Murray Makes His Übercool Picks For the 'Ghostbusters 3' Female Leads

It’s good to co-star with Bill Murray (nowadays). And not just because you know standing in a room with him would be an adventure in itself; but if he likes you, he’ll throw your name out for upcoming films. He might be simultaneously breaking our hearts and doing us a favor by not starring in the upcoming Ghostbusters 3, but Bill has a few suggestions of who should — and damned if they wouldn’t make a great team.

Currently promoting St. Vincent at the Toronto International Film Festival, Murray not only gave his approval of a Ghostbusters reboot; he said he’d watch it: “”I’m fine with it…I would go to that movie, and they’d probably have better outfits, too.”

First up, on Bill’s Fantasy Parapsychologist Team is co-star Melissa McCarthy…and his SNL pal, Kristen Wiig. “Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny — God, she’s funny!”

His next suggestion was another co-star (Zombieland), and a completely unexpected — interesting — choice. “”I like this girl Linda Cardellini (Mad Men) a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.”

Wait, Bill Murray watches Mad Men?

Oh wait…of course he does — because his brother Joel plays Freddy Rumsen.

A reporter jumped right on the opportunity and asked McCarthy what she thought of Murray’s team nomination:

“I think that somebody is really trying to do it, but nobody has talked to me about it. Listen, if the people I think are doing it are doing it, I must never question them.”

“How does she feel about the idea of being a Ghostbuster? She’s not sure, but she loves the idea of working with the other funny ladies on the rumour list. ‘Oh, my God, that’s daunting. That’s taking on a legend, a legendary movie. But I would do anything with those ladies, anything at all.’”

Me too, Melissa, me too.
